Tutankhamun

On the KS2 Reading Paper, the examiners are looking to reward the most able pupils. They want to find the following:-

  1. The ability to read between the lines and to deduce the writer's meaning.
  2. The ability to find evidence in the text to support your deductions or observations.
  3. The ability to select and comment on some of the words that the writer uses.
  4. The ability to comment on the writer's point of view within the text you are reading.

If there's time... we will be looking at a KS3 SATs Reading Paper called "In Search of Treasure". One of the pieces of writing tells us about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt in 1922. Below there is a picture of his beautiful solid gold death mask...

Down in London, an exhibition was recently held in the Millennium Dome - now known as O2 - all about Tutankhamun and "The Golden Age of the Pharaohs". Click on the death mask above to find out more.

Returning to "In Search of Treasure" - the KS3 Reading Booklet for 2003. Here are two questions to attempt on a Word page. You will need to copy them and then paste them in before trying to answer them:-

1. Explain two ways paragraph one creates an atmosphere of mystery and suspense at the beginning of the text. (2 marks)

2. In paragraph three how does the writer make the reader feel involved in this part of the account?
  • the way the paragraph begins
  • the use of punctuation at the end of the paragraph
  • the use of dashes in the first sentence of paragraph three
